Southern Pines is a unique oasis
in Moore County, managing to be a
delightful small town while emanating
the ambience of a much larger
city. Downtown invites meandering
with its boutiques, specialty stores,
art galleries, and an assortment of
dining for every culinary craving.
Founded with the intent to draw
newcomers, Southern Pines was
designed to entice weary northern
travelers heading south by train.
Today’s tourists who choose the
train will find the depot’s location in
the center of town exceedingly convenient.
With a strong equestrian
community, athletic complexes,
and more than a half dozen parks,
Southern Pines courts fitness and
recreation. Its award-winning Pine
Needles Golf Club
played host to the
U.S. Women’s Open
three times in
the past 14 years.
The town is home
to the 900-acre Weymouth Woods
natural preserve, the nearby Weymouth
Center for the Performing
Arts & Humanities, and the North
Carolina Literary Hall of Fame, all of
which combine to make Southern
Pines the cultural and arts center of
Moore County. The town also hosts
an annual cycling competition, the
100-mile-long Tour de Moore, plus
several exciting street festivals such
as May’s Springfest. Situated adjacent
to Fort Bragg, Southern Pines
is desirable for military personnel
who want both work proximity and
a great family quality of life.
